CORE is a not-for-profit membership association of Internet domain name registrars and registries. Its purpose is to operate, on a cost-recovery basis, a shared registration system (SRS) for Internet domain names. CORE is highly skilled in the registrar business and in the Registries development. Since 1997, CORE has been active in the development of protocols and methodologies to facilitate access to domain registrations, including a multi-protocol Shared Registration System (SRS) and registration gateway.

CORE starts operating as .museum Registry Operator
CORE has started operating as the .museum TLD registry Operator as of November 22, 2002. MuseDoma, the sponsoring organisation of the .museum TLD, has offered test registrations under a testbed arrangement since November 2001. The operation through the CORE SRS allows MuseDoma to offer registrations via registrars. The .museum TLD is a so-called sponsored gTLD for use by members of the Museum Commmunity only. The CORE SRS currently handles two (.aero and .museum) of the three existing sponsored TLDs (.aero, .coop, .museum).
